Diablo 2 Resurrected server fix will 'take time to implement

Today Blizzard published an extensive blog post detailing what's happening with Diablo 2's servers. Apparently, D2R uses exactly the same server structure since the original game, with minor alterations and tweaks--these tweaks have grown to be more plentiful because of these issues. The devs explain how the server issues yesteryear four days were the consequence of a perfect storm of massive concurrent user spikes as well as a game-improving update. Both of these combined knocked the servers offline. Datacenters have simply been overwhelmed every day--too most people are trying to play D2R Ladder Items immediately.

The global servers were also attempting to continually reconnect and back themselves up, a mechanical process that caused a lot of headaches. So Blizzard has optimized and released fixes with server downtime. The devs also say that this biggest fix is going to take some time to reveal.

Diablo 2 Resurrected has two different kinds of servers: Global and regional. Regional servers will get connected to global servers and upload character and account data. The issue is these uploads happen too often. The original D2 had a lot fewer players and this also didn't obstruct very much in the past.

Blizzard is currently coding an alternative that will significantly reduce how frequently regional servers upload to global servers. This will regain the servers to back data to their own personal regional databases.

This fix will require some time, though:

"Right now we're writing code to vary how we accomplish this entirely, and we all will rarely be saving to your global database, that will significantly decrease the load on that server, that is an architecture redesign that can take some time to make, test, then implement."

Long story short: You should probably expect intermittent server downtime and core issues through the coming weeks.
